Subscribers

Subscribers represent the individuals you can target when sending out email campaigns. Each subscriber can optionally be assigned one or more tags to help with organization and segmentation.Each subscriber's email address must be unique within your workspace.

Viewing subscribers

To view your subscribers, click on the Subscribers link in the sidebar. This will take you to the subscribers index page, where you'll find a list of all your subscribers.

Filtering Subscribers

You can filter your subscriber list based on:

  • Subscriber Email or Name (partial matches allowed)
  • Subscriber Subscription Status

Subscriber Details

When viewing an individual subscriber, you’ll see the following information:

  • Email
  • First name (optional)
  • Last name (optional)
  • Subscription status
  • Any tags assigned to the subscriber
  • If any emails or messages have been sent to the subscriber, they will be listed in the Messages section.

Adding and Updating Subscribers

Subscribers can be added via CSV upload. CSV of the subscribers can be exported from Shopify

CSV Export from Shopify

To export a customer list from your Shopify store, follow these steps:

  • Log in to Shopify Admin: Go to your Shopify admin panel..
  • Navigate to Customers:From the left-hand menu, click on Customersto open your customer list.
  • Filter Customers (Optional): If you want to export a specific group of customers (e.g., based on location or customer tags), apply filters using the filter options at the top of the customer list.
  • Export Customers: Click on the Export button, located at the top-right corner of the customer list.
  • Choose Export Options: A pop-up window will appear with the following options: Current page, All customers, Selected Customers, Filtered Customers. Choose the correct option. By default, all exports include: full name, ID, address, email, phone number, company, marketing consent, orders, tax exempts. For SJ Email Marketing App, basic fields like id, email, first name and last name is sufficient. You can uncheck the additional options of tags and metafields.
  • Select File Format: Choose between CSV for Excel, Numbers, and other spreadsheet programs or Plain CSV file for other purposes.
  • Download the File: Click Export. Shopify will email you a download link if the file is large, or it will be downloaded directly to your computer.

CSV Imports to SJ Email Marketing App

SJ Email Marketing App allows you to import multiple subscribers using a CSV file. This can be used to create new subscribers or update existing ones.

Subscribers can be imported in the following steps:

  • Click the Subscribers link in the sidebar.
  • Click the overflow menu button and select Import Subscribers.
  • Follow the instructions to upload your CSV file..

CSV File Format

Your CSV file should include the following columns in this order:

  • id (optional) - Used when updating existing subscribers. Leave empty when adding new subscribers.
  • email (required) - Must be unique.
  • first_name (optional) - Subscriber first name.
  • last_name (optional) - Subscriber last name.

Make sure the first row of your CSV file contains the header names listed above, and each row after that represents a single subscriber.

After preparing your CSV file, click Browse to select your file, and then click Upload to begin the import process.

Tags

You can assign tags to all subscribers in a CSV upload by selecting the tags before uploading. It is not currently possible to specify different tags for each subscriber in a single CSV import.

Exporting Subscribers

To export your list of subscribers:

  • Click the Subscribers link in the sidebar.
  • Click the overflow menu button and select Export Subscribers.

Unsubscribing Subscribers

Manually Unsubscribing a Subscriber: To manually unsubscribe a subscriber, go to their edit page, uncheck the Subscribed box, and click Save.

Unsubscribe Links: SJ Email Marketing App allows automatic inclusion of unsubscribe links in email templates and campaigns. When a subscriber clicks the unsubscribe link, they’ll be directed to a confirmation page. If they confirm, they will be unsubscribed but can choose to resubscribe if they wish.
